Sourcing Christmas Supplies from China

With Christmas products, the opportunity and the risk are concentrated into just a few months.

With regular products, a few days’ delay can usually be fixed. Christmas products are different. Miss the season, and you miss an entire year.

Below are a few real issues I’ve run into while working in the holiday supplies industry.

1. September Is the Last Safe Window to Place Orders

Retail stocking schedules in the US and Europe are fixed:

  • US retailers start full-store rollouts in early November.
  • Europe is earlier — some supermarkets begin Christmas displays in late October.

That means Chinese factories have to finish production, shipping, and delivery by the end of October.

A standard Christmas decoration production cycle is 4–6 weeks. But that assumes styles, packaging, certifications, and other details are already confirmed, with no major changes or rework.

Then add shipping time.

Shenzhen port to the US West Coast is 15–22 days. To the US East Coast or Gulf of Mexico, 30–40 days or more.

If you only start the order in October, the timeline gets very tight.

I’ve seen sellers switch to air freight just to avoid running out of stock. Air freight can cost several times more than sea freight. An order that had a healthy margin ends up with none.

2. Choosing the Right Cooperation Model for Different Orders

Before you place an order, choose the cooperation model based on the order type.

  • Single category, large volume — go directly to the source factory for custom production.
  • Fewer SKUs, mixed categories — go to the Yide Road wholesale market in Guangzhou, or work with a trading company. The unit price may be slightly higher, but they have more styles and lower minimum order quantities.
  • Factories only specialize in their own category — for example, only Christmas trees, or only Christmas ornaments. Stalls and trading companies use multiple supply channels, which works better for mixed-category, smaller-batch orders.

3. Certifications

For Christmas electric decorations, light strings, and other powered products, requirements differ by country. You must confirm the relevant market certifications in advance.

For example:

  • The EU requires attention to EU 2023/988, the General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR).
  • US decorative light strings need to comply with applicable safety standards based on the specific product.
  • For the Eurasian Economic Union, some decorative and electric products may fall under TR CU 008, 004, 020, and other technical regulations.

These three are the most common. The exact requirements still depend on your specific product.

4. Multi-SKU Mixed Orders: Keeping Quality Consistent

If a Christmas project has many SKUs made by different factories, it is easy to get batch color differences and inconsistent workmanship.

So before production, lock down specifications, color codes, craftsmanship, packaging, barcodes, and warning labels in writing. All factories must use the same standard.

A lot of problems are not because the factory did something wrong on purpose. It’s because both sides understood the product differently from the start.

5. How can bamboo sourcing Managing  Orders

The problem with Christmas orders is not the production only, but whether multiple suppliers can finish, inspect, and ship on schedule.

We have worked in the Guangzhou and Foshan holiday supplies supply chain for years, supporting overseas buyers with multi-SKU and multi-supplier orders.

Depending on the order, Bamboo sourcing can help with:

  • Supplier and production follow-up
  • Quality inspection and shipment scheduling
  • Consolidating goods from multiple factories and container loading
  • Documentation, customs clearance, and logistics
  • Shipping schedules, customs clearance, and onward transport

If you are preparing your 2026 Christmas sourcing plan, Bamboo sourcing can help you to arrange suppliers, samples, production, and logistics early, and leave room for delays — because peak season always has delays.
